It's funny the way things work out sometimes; my last wedding of 2023 was the furthest from home (Brinsop Court in Hereford), & my first wedding of 2024 was also the furthest away (Shustoke Barn just outside Birmingham). I love photographing weddings at all the incredible venue I have near me, but I must admit, I do also love visiting different parts of the country and photographing at new venues. What a beautiful country we live in!
I photographed weddings at some of my well known favourite venues like Chafford Park, Wadhurst Castle, Nettlestead Place, The George in Rye, Rye Town Hall, & The Barnyard. I worked at The Mitre Hotel in Hampton Court for the first time (what a stunning location) & I returned to venues I hadn't shot at in a while like The Ferry House Inn & Swallows Oast.
In terms of wedding trends, couples are increasingly doing more of what works for them and not necessarily following all wedding day traditions (like speeches, cake cutting, first dance etc.). I see more influence from across the pond with more first looks for the bride and groom before the ceremony occuring, & also in the popularity of black tie attire for the gents. Shot cocktails were a big hit with Baby Guinness being seen the most, and gone are the days when weddings happen almost exclusively at weekends. According to one survey, the most popular date for weddings in 2024 was a Monday in September!
It's always a pleasure for me to look back through the weddings I've photographed over the year; reliving each one, & being taken back into specific moments eliciting different emotions. I always feel incredible gratitude to each and every couple that booked me, placing their trust in me to photograph their weddings.
Thank you to all of you for making it another amazing year.
Below is a mix of about 150 of my favourite wedding photographs from the year: Some chosen for the obvious emotion captured; some chosen for little stories within the photo; some for the technical aspect of what was required to capture the image; & others simply because I think they're damn fine. 😉
