Preview: Elma & Ben’s Wedding Photography at Swallows Oast

On Saturday I photographed the wedding of Elma & Ben. They met at university in 2014 and have been through a lot together since. They have forged a strong bond over those years, & were clearly over the moon to finally get married.

I started my coverage of their day at Swallows Oast, where Elma and her bridesmaids were getting ready pre-ceremony. It was good working with the videographer Lewis again (from Films by Lewis), and a first time (and real pleasure) working with the make-up artist Humayra Hassan.

Elma was driven to St Mary's church in Ticehurst in a stunning Rolls Royce where Reverend Thomas Pelham conducted the wedding ceremony. Everyone then headed to Swallows Oast for drinks, lots of canapes, a few photos, and then the wedding breakfast, with speeches beforehand from the Maid of Honour, Brother of the Bride, Groom, & Best Man. Ben (the groom) is a huge fan of Lord of the Rings, so that was the theme for the table names, and also inspiration for parts of the best man's speech.

After dessert, everyone moved back into the marquee for drinks and games whilst the barn was cleared for the evening dancing. This also gave me a chance to take the couple outside for a few night portraits around the venue. I love the beautiful stonework for Swallows Oast so was keen to utilise this in their portraits.

Instead of a traditional first dance, Elma and two of her bridesmaids performed an incredible dance routine which Ben and all of the guests absolutely loved. Wow, they looked like pros!

After that, the band, "Drive" performed hit after hit, keeping the party jumping and the dance floor rammed.
