I had a great time on Saturday photographing the wedding of Jade & Ollie at Winters Barns in Canterbury. These two had been together 10 years when they first contacted me about their wedding back in 2020 and timed their wedding day just one day before the anniversary of their first date. They're a lovely couple and I really liked their style - Jade wore a stunning sleek dress from Sophie Grace Bridal, and Ollie & the groomsmen wore tweed suits that worked perfectly with the countryside barn venue. I particularly liked the cufflinks that Jade had given Ollie for the day - in recognition of his love of gaming, a couple of miniature Playstation controllers. It's not often I see something new, but these were a first.
They enjoyed their whole day at Winters Barns, with both getting ready in separate rooms in the morning, before enjoying an outside ceremony, drinks in the garden, and the later meal and celebrations in the barns. We got pretty lucky with the weather as the day before was unbearably hot, and the forecast had suggested thunderstorms for the wedding day. Luckily though, we only saw a few odd drops of rain during the day, the temperature had dropped to a nice level and there was a lovely breeze. That cool breeze did get a little stronger during the day though which provided some fun trying portraits of the couple with Jade's veil blowing dramatically. Strangely the wind seemed to be blowing in all directions at once which didn't help, but it certainly brought a few smiles.
For their first dance, Jade & Ollie chose "Is this love?" by Bob Marley both due to the love of the song and in honour of Jade's Jamaican heritage. Jade then danced with her father to the song "Daddy's Girl" - a song that he used to sing to her when she was a child and they still enjoy today. It was very touching and you could see how proud he was.
Congratulations Jade & Ollie and thanks for having me along.
