Yesterday, I had the pleasure of photographing Donna & Ben's wedding at Wadhurst Castle. Their 4 children each had important roles in the day, with their 3 daughters being bridesmaid and 2 flower girls, and their son as Ben's groomsmen.
They had their ceremony in the walled garden and a very special ring bearer - an African Eagle Owl! When the time came to exchange rings, the groom put on the leather glove, made a pre-arranged sound, and the stunning bird flew to his arm carrying the rings. It certainly made for an impressive and unique aspect to the ceremony.
Once married, the couple led their guests to the lawn where the Owl's handlers set up 5 different birds of prey for the guests to get close to, and hold for photos. This went down very well with everyone and was not something I have seen before at a wedding. Everyone then moved to the Drawing room for their delicious wedding breakfast, catered by Vine & Dine, before there were speeches from the groom, and the newlyweds' eldest daughter.
Donna & Ben started the evening party off with a First Dance to 'Please Forgive Me' by Bryan Adams, and with lots of evenings guests arriving, it looked set to be one hell of a party.
When I talked to Ben after arriving at Wadhurst Castle in the morning, he told me how much he liked some of the trees in the grounds, so I was keen to use them for the couple portraits. It's always nice using specific aspects of a venue that a couple especially like.
Congratulations Donna & Ben!
