Preview: Christina & James’ Wedding Photography at Penshurst Place

I first met Christina & James at a Penshurst Place wedding fair approximately 18 months before the wedding. I got on really well with them at the fair, and so was extremely pleased when they contacted me afterwards to book me for their wedding. In our pre-wedding meeting, I loved hearing more about the details of their day and discussing specific shots with them. I couldn't wait for their wedding day to arrive.

In the week leading up to the wedding, the UK had been blasted by cold, wind, and rain, so we were all counting our blessings when the morning of their wedding saw blue skies and gorgeous sunshine. I started my coverage of the day at Chrissy's parent's house where she was getting ready with her family. As Chrissy and her mum were seated by windows for their hair and make-up, you could see how lucky they felt looking out at the fabulous weather.

Once ready, Chrissy was driven to Penshurst Church of St John the Baptist in a stunning Rolls Royce Silver Cloud from Distinctly Vintage (possible my favourite wedding car). Their service was conducted by Reverend Lisa Cornell, who as Chrissy's dad commented in his speech, was a bit of a character. Both Christina and James are solicitors, & Rev. Lisa decided to tell a few lawyer jokes during the service. I think the guests were a little surprised but it certainly added to the happiness of the day.

Once married, they led their guests the short walk around to Penshurst Place where drinks and canapés were served in the courtyard. They then moved inside to the Baron's Hall for the wedding breakfast, which was preceded by speeches from the father of the bride, the groom, and the best man. The best man, James' brother Danny, really stole the show here. His speech started with a music video about the couple's relationship where he played both the groom & the bride. He donned glasses and a wig to play James, and a long blonde wig, and a dress to play Christina. It was absolutely hilarious and everyone loved it. He then delivered his speech with numerous jokes at James' expense, but knowing his brother well, all were greeted with full laughter.

In the evening, they started the party off with a first dance to 'Symphony' by Clean Banded with Zara Larsson. After that, their band, 'The Sweet & Lowdown' took over. I've seen many wedding bands over the years and these guys are going straight onto my recommended supplier list. Now, I admit my opinion may be slightly influenced by the awesome songs Chrissy & James had requested they play, but they really did sound amazing, and had learnt a few of them specifically for the day.

Congratulations Christina & James. I loved photographing your wedding and wish you lots of happiness together.
