Yesterday I was back at Winters Barns in Canterbury to photograph the wedding of Faye & James.
I started my coverage with a few shots around the venue. Immediately after walking in the front door, there was a beautiful welcome board, and on the right-hand side, a variety of Polaroid-style photos of the happy couple in all the exotic locations they have visited. As a keen traveller myself, their photos gave me some serious wanderlust.
I then joined Faye in the salon, where she was getting ready with her maid of honour Laura and bridesmaid Kostandina, while Annabelle was taking care of hair and make-up. It was a lovely, relaxed start to the day, and I spent some time capturing the details before heading over to join James.
James was getting ready in the ‘Pump Room’ with his best men, page boy and groomsmen, and after a few buttonhole photos and some quick portraits with his two best men, I returned to Faye as the final preparations were underway. Once ready, we had a really lovely first reveal with her dad — always one of those moments that’s special to witness.
The ceremony took place inside at Winters Barns, providing a warm and intimate setting for Faye & James to exchange their vows surrounded by family and friends. There was also a quiet, thoughtful tribute during the ceremony, with seats reserved in memory of Faye’s nan and James’s grandad — a really meaningful touch that kept them part of the day.
After the ceremony, guests gathered for confetti before enjoying drinks and canapés in the courtyard. We worked through the group photos before I stole Faye & James away for a few relaxed portraits around the grounds — Winters Barns always offers a lovely mix of rustic character and open space for this.
Inside, the wedding breakfast room looked great, ready for the BBQ-style meal, and after dessert there were speeches from Faye’s dad, James, and the best men, Alf & Tom. They may not remember how or when they first met James, but clearly remember plenty of funny and interesting moments they’ve shared since then.
We were very lucky with the weather, with a lovely day throughout and a beautiful sunny evening to finish — perfect for stepping outside for a few more portraits in the softer light before guests began to arrive for the evening celebrations.
Faye & James cut their cake before sharing a father-daughter dance, followed by their first dance together to I Can Get Used To This by Becky Hill. Once the dancefloor opened, guests quickly joined them to celebrate the night away.
It was such a lovely day to be part of — relaxed, personal, and full of meaningful moments throughout.
