On Friday I was photographing the wedding of Jane & Paul at The Beacon in Tunbridge Wells. I've wanted to work here for a while now, but it's been a bit elusive for me; whenever I have had an enquiry, I've already been booked for a wedding elsewhere. It's been a little frustrating as I know the venue is so beautiful, but it's meant I have been really looking forward to this wedding.
I joined Jane in the morning upstairs where she was getting ready. Her bridesmaids were joining her later on, so it was just herself with Laura Irwin doing her hair / make-up. This meant I walked into possibly the most quiet and chilled bridal prep ever. I was just doing some bridal portraits of Jane, when her bridesmaids walked in and the room was filled with their exclamations of joy at how beautiful Jane looked. They immediately rushed to her, hugging her, and all holding back the tears. It was a beautiful moment.
The ceremony took place in the amphitheatre part way down the hillside from the venue. It's such a lovely and unique ceremony area that has immediately made its way into my list of the best outside ceremony locations. After the ceremony, Jane & Paul joined their guests in the Rose Garden for drinks and canapes with backing music by the quartet Stretto Ensembles and entertainment by the magician Adam Smith. These both went down extremely well with the guests.
The wedding breakfast and speeches took place in the yurt further down the hill. I love this space. It has wood plank floors and festoon lights around the internal structure giving a beautiful setting that has the holiday feel of a boardwalk. Then as the sun began to set, everyone moved back to the main building for the party with DJ Marcel Mendez providing the music. Before the first dance though, I took Jane & Paul for a few photos in the grounds. It really is a photographer's dream here with so many options for photos, but my favourite was the area overlooking the lakes further down the hillside with great views across the valley.
