I’m still a little speechless over yesterday’s amazing wedding at Wadhurst Castle. I’d been looking forward to it since Dani and Dom first booked me, and that was just based on the vibe I got off them. Then I spent some time with them on a pre-wedding portrait session around London, got to know them a bit more, and was looking forward to their wedding even more. And then there was the big surprise for the day – something only myself, Dani & Dom, and one or two of the wedding party knew about. Dom (a pilot) had arranged for an air display during the drinks reception by The Blades!!!
My task was to get everyone together for a group photo before 5pm with everyone standing with their backs to the castle, so that The Blades would fly over them from behind at 5pm sharp, cause a big surprise, and then everyone could watch the display. Group photos of all guests often take a bit of time to arrange, but in this instance, and when we had allowed plenty of time, inexplicably the entire wedding party moved with precision in an incredibly efficient manner. I was then left trying to stall things for just under ten minutes whilst waiting for (and being able to hear in the distance), The Blades air display team to arrive. To infinite amusement for those ‘in the know’, my stalling involved: changing my angle of the shot, asked people to adjust how they were standing, asked for 3 cheers for the bride and groom, and trying to play down the sound of the nearby planes as a ‘drone.’ The planes then roared overhead, jaws dropped, and everyone got to enjoy the display.
It really was incredible. But, you know what? So was the rest of the day. There were so many times and attributes of the day that were amazing and I was honoured to be a part of it.
Congratulations Dani & Dom. I’m sure you’re both still flying high from it all today and I hope you have a beautiful honeymoon.
